The Junction City Rodeo Association began 26 years ago when Rich Smith and Steve Kraft worked to put on an open contestant rodeo. Rich was a soldier at Fort Riley. Steve and Janice Kraft own and operate a stock contracting company, Kraft Rodeo Company. With the help of Jim, Susan, and Rick Roberts, they approached the Junction City Saddle Club where Bill Reimler helped them secure the 4-H/Saddle Club arena for the first Junction City rodeo.
With that success, the Junction City Rodeo Association was formed. Improvements continue to be made yearly thanks to community sponsors and annual rodeo proceeds.
Some of the original members include: Rich Smith, Steve & Janice Kraft, Jim & Susan Roberts, Bill Reimler, Rick Roberts, Terry Graff, Dennis Bailey, Don Gray, Joyce Jensen, Darryl & Debbie Blocker, Kandise Moore, Bob Sheffelton, Kurt Janke, and Ben Bennett
